A move this
morning - which meant of course a 5.30 am start.
The customary light breakfast, but on this occasion, a game
drive prior to leaving the park on route to Savuti. Once again,
elephants, hippo, tawny eagle and a lovely sighting of an
African eagle owl. On leaving camp we had a brief stretch of
tarmac road, before we encountered some rougher going in the
form of soft undulating sandy tracks. In fact, so rough was the
going that we caught up with our support crew. By this time they
should have been setting up our site in Savuti, but they had
become a cropper!! They hit a rough bit, probably a |
|
tad too
fast I
would guess, and their trailer came adrift from the hitch and
rolled. The track was littered with sleeping bags, chairs and
various items of kitchen equipment. Within a short time however
they had repacked and re-hooked the trailer, and were once again
on their way. This put them behind schedule, and we gave them a
hand to set up on arrival at Savuti. The journey to Savuti was
over 4 hours, more due to the rough road than the distance. A
lunch of salad, meats and tuna preceded an afternoon siesta, in
preparation for our 4pm game drive. Our new sightings today
included scaups owl, wildebeest, |

and dwarf
mongoose and we came across a black-backed jackal drinking. We
also encountered a cross elephant, then it was back to camp by
6.30 pm. For our evening meal - steak in a delicious sauce,
mashed potato, butternut squash, corn and ratatouille - followed
by tinned fruit and custard. Our stay at Savuti was for a single
night, and so once again, with a 5.30 am start it was another
early night at 10pm and ready for our trip the following day
into the Moremi Game Reserve. |
