Following the
customary excellent breakfast at Mufindi - we were back on the road by
8am - sorry that we could not have had a day or two longer at this
lovely location. We were now on our way to the Udzwunga Mountains. Here
we were to stay at the "Udzwunga Mountain View Hotel." Described in the
trip notes as a "simple Tanzanian Hotel" - it could hardly have been in
more contrast to our Mufindi accommodation. A very basic room, with bed,
ceiling fan - and little else - though we had the usual en-suite
facilities with shower - which was just as well - the heat here was

the hottest of the
trip - made all the more uncomfortable following the cool of the Mufindi
Mountains - and the very hot and dusty road journey. We were though,
welcomed with a welcoming drink of fruit juice with crushed ice - which
went down a treat. For dinner we had vegetable soup and roll - and in my
case, followed by King Fish fillet and chips - and pineapple and banana
for dessert. Lucy took a count on who was to elect for the walk up to
Sanje Falls the following day. Eight had elected to do the walk, though
some reserved the right to change to the easier optional walk. |

Lucy, wisely,
advised that the walk was fairly long - and steep. This prospect, in the
prevailing heat, was sowing seeds of doubt amongst some as to their
suitability.
As this was -
photographically speaking - a generally quiet day I will take the
opportunity of introducing the gang below - our fellow travellers,
our tour leader, and not forgetting, our three driver-guides. |
